Uganda Vision 2040

In 2007, the cabinet of Uganda approved the vision statement ‘A Transformed Ugandan Society from a Peasant to a Modern and Prosperous Country within 30 years’. A technical group was tasked to develop a plan that government and other stakeholders will follow in realizing the vision statement. The plan was named Uganda Vision 2040. It was launched during the national celebrations of 50 years of Uganda’s Independence in 2012.

The plan is divided into six-implementation cycles, each for five years. By the end of the sixth cycle, Uganda’s GDP is projected at approximately USD Billion 580 and by 2062, it will have become a first world country. The realisation of this plan will benefit all Ugandans irrespective of their backgrounds and hence, the need for all of us to support its implementation.

As already explained however, primarily the absence of the essential attitudes for development in our society is foiling realization of Uganda Vision 2040 (Figs. 1b and 1c).
